THE KB Cookbook Club

In need of some inspo in the kitchen?

Stuck in a rut with the same old recipes? It’s true, we all have our fail-safe favourites but a quick whip round at the studio and we were falling over each other with suggestions on cookbooks to try. We thought we’d share our go-to’s…

I am a big fan of The Farm Table by Julius Roberts. My absolute favourite recipe has to be the pork belly braised in cider (although possibly not for this time of year!) I do slightly adapt the recipe and I just get strips of pork belly rather than using a whole piece. I always add more prunes and more sage. It’s utterly delicious.

I bake from this pretty much at every cake-worthy occasion. Miranda is not only an epic baker (GBBO Series1), queen of sourdough & cooking in general, but also one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. If you only try one recipe go for the fig & caramel cake. It’s insane. Oh and if you’re looking for the most chocolately chocolate cake head to p.142

And the cherry on the top… she’s local.

I love Diana Henry and the recipes in this book really are simple. With a busy, young family, that’s just what I need - quick and easy recipes that don’t require oodles of fancy ingredients. My absolute favourite pick from the book has to be the Breton tuna and white bean gratin. It’s my go-to when I have nothing in the house apart from store cupboard staples. The bonus is that it’s absolutely delicious!

Earlier this year, I ventured off on a bagel making course, a much requested Christmas gift  courtesy of my family. I've always been a huge bagel fan and consider myself a good judge of a decent bagel having lived in Manhattan for 10 years. The course fuelled my love affair of all things bagels and I now try to make a batch every week. I've got marginally more adventurous partly down to this super cookbook. From blueberry, to cinnamon raisin, to the cheese and pepperoni bagel, I'm slowly making my way through the multitude of options. That said, the most requested? Good ole' fashioned plain bagels seem to win my crew over every time. I really have created a rod for my own back though - my children now refuse to eat store bought bagels!

I bought Persiana by Sabrina Ghayour over ten years ago, and it’s still my favourite of all her cookbooks (and I’ve got a fair few!). It’s packed with bold, vibrant Middle Eastern flavours — from fresh, punchy salads and simple sharing plates to slow-cooked dishes that are perfect for weekends or gatherings. The marinated feta is a permanent fixture in our fridge — once you’ve made it, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. There’s a lovely mix of everyday recipes and ones you can linger over, and it’s the kind of book that ends up splattered and dog-eared because you keep coming back to it. A real kitchen keeper.
