Girl Power
It just so happens that we're a gaggle of women here at Kate Barton, even Coco the dog is of the girl power variety. Sisterhood at work is empowering and great fun, but it's actually so much more than that. It's the way in which the team clicks, it's the understanding of unique personalities and having empathy for everyone's individual situations. It's more than a job, it's another little family on the side.
Kate has built her business in a gut instinct kind of way. There’s an intuitive sense of ‘it feels right so let’s do it’. Unconventional hires seem to be the norm - in the queue at Tesco, a tenant in an Airbnb, a friend of a friend of a friend...that kind of thing. So far it has worked gloriously.
Obviously as the business grows, hires become more strategic as we determine which skill sets are needed in line with where the business is going. That said, new people coming into the team have to be right culturally. The right person skill set wise, but the wrong fit culturally, is a big no-no, it just wouldn't work.
International Women's Day reminds us, on a global level, of the importance of investing and believing in women. Of course there’s always more to be done on that front, but here at Kate Barton we're certainly excited to be a part of a supportive, nurturing, flexible team, with unwavering drive and ambition.
Businesses that recognise women often wear the hats of many, and deliver a supportive, flexible working environment to allow that are to be celebrated. We feel quite lucky to have found one of those!
Happy International Women’s Day x
