Our Ethos

At the very core of the Kate Barton design ethic is a need for less. This comes through in each collection in different ways. Firstly, through the delivery of an entirely versatile, classic, often season-less wardrobe that works year on year and never succumbs to trends. Secondly, through our commitment to the quality of the product, ensuring our garments become well-loved, well-worn favourites. Lastly, limited short runs of every style mean we don’t get left with lots of excess stock and succumb to endless sales. You’ll also often see our Kate Barton favourites reinvented across the seasons - we observe and listen and when something works, it will continue to be part of the collection.

Making careful and considered choices when it comes to our clothes is important; fashion trends are not. The very notion of a trend suggests a fleeting moment, to be replaced when something else comes along. This ethos is against everything we believe and comes from the heart of the brand. Kate, personally, is passionate about preserving the longevity of our clothing and our possessions. A mender and fixer at heart, Kate sees a rip in a skirt as an opportunity to adjust the look of an outfit with a contrasting vintage fabric remnant, or a bold stripe patch.

Rather than throwing something away or sending it off for repair, we want to inspire our customers to do the same - to take action themselves through newfound inspiration and knowledge. At Kate Barton, we are determined that our garments will last for life.

This season we are working entirely with natural fabrics. We work closely with a small group of family run suppliers which allows us to guarantee the quality of our products.

We’re proud to hold long-standing relationships with everyone we work with. Our suppliers use recycled rainwater in the processes of dying and printing, which eases the burden on mains water. All dyes used in our products are azo-free and frequent testing is undertaken to upkeep the standards of practice.
