Kate Barton is a designer with an unflinching eye for clothes which are flattering, forgiving, comfortable and yet which also exude effortless style. She began her career over 30 years ago as a designer at Laura Ashley before setting up her own childrenswear brand, The General Clothing company and then working with Johnnie Boden to create Mini Boden.
Three years ago, dismayed by the lack of humour and fun in many clothes she found, she set out to design a collection which embraced her love of print, colour and great respect for fit and cut. The result? Mindfully designed clothes in natural fabrics which will take you from the school run, a dog walk and to dinner.
Clothes that will also dress you for the smartest of occasions or as her youngest son put it, ‘from the nave to the rave’. In short, enduring, affordable wardrobe staples which can be worn every season and the sort Barton hopes become well-loved, well-worn favourites that will stand the test of time.
